Irated youth leaders from Nyamira County have warned Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i against undermining the Judiciary.
During an interview with the Daily Nation at his Harambee House office, Matiang’i had accused the judiciary of being rogue and called for its urgent reconstitution.
“Time has come for Kenyans to have a robust debate on the quality and kind of Judiciary we have. We are pretending that we have a credible Judiciary — we do not have one. I am one of the people who have been frustrated by their blatant bias. And we have clear cases of incompetence; we are so frustrated by the behaviour of this Judiciary,” he told Daily Nation.
Dr Matiangi’s remarks have elicited strong condemnation with leaders accusing him of being used to sabotage Chief Justice David Maraga.
“His reckless remarks ideally targets to taint Maraga as a non-reformist. We have seen our judiciary perfoming quite well,” said Dennis Marube, ODM Youth leader.
Youth Talk Africa President Beavon Magare said:
“Matiang’i wants a judiciary which always ruled in favour of government. He should mind his business and stop dragging Maraga.”
In a statement to the media last week, Mr Maraga stated that the judiciary will not condone actions of defying court orders.
